I love thin, soft foundation that you can’t tell is on there once you’ve applied it (which, as many girls do not realise is the point of foundation, its supposed to make you fabulous while not looking like you’re wearing any!) but I find that most “light” coverage foundations are too light and when you get to “medium” coverage, its too dark.

So, I tried and tried and tried to mix all the different face make-ups that I own to try and get an end result that covered all my blemishes and spots, while still being completely light and invisible…..

After about a week (and a lot of combinations!) I found that the perfect mix comes from three different things; heavy coverage foundation, light coverage foundation and tinted moisturiser. Now, when I say tinted moisturiser, I don’t mean the stuff that is actually like foundation, I mean the moisturiser that has a slight shimmer to it. Also, if you can’t find one like this (since my one is waaaaayyy old, a highlighter lotion will do like the one I’m going to mention in a minute )

Heres my recipe if anyone wants to have a try (and tell me what you think when you do!)

1. A pea sized amount of this :

Its called 17 Skin Perfecting Foundation, its from boots, costs £5.37 and comes in 6 different colours from soft ivory to caramel/biscuit!

2. A smaller amount of this( i’d say one squirt at most, as it is very runny!):

Its called Bourjois 10 hour sleep effect foundation, you can get it from most places that sell make-up and costs around £8-9. Comes in 5 different colours from Abricote clair(very fair) to Abricote (dark).

3. Last but not least, a pea size amount of this:

It’s called No7 High Lights, it’s from boots and costs around £12. This one only comes in 1 colour!

Of course, I use a these amounts on myself, so feel free to use more or less for yourself depending what your comfortable with.

Note, if you use more or less, make sure you keep the proportions the same otherwise it wont turn out as well!!

I’ve found that even though the well known GHD straighteners so what it says on the tin, there are plenty more out there that do just as well (for half the price or less!) and a few that I actually prefer to the GHDs.

My favourite curling tongs have to be the Mark Hill ones. They are the best ones I’ve had by far because they get super hot, they have a g0od barrell size and you don’t have to wait a lifetime for them to be hot enough to use.

You can get them from most large chemists like Superdrug or Boots and they’re about £50 I think. But I would say to have a look for offers on them! I bought mine from Boots and they were on half price, which I think they do every year on stuff like that, so they ended up only costing me £25 and they’ve lasted a good year or so now without having any problems!

I’ve also tried the Umberto Giannini tongs and although they were quick heating, and got really hot, they did break on me a few times! So they weren’t the best if you rely on them heavily as I did and had to go without when they broke!

I didn’t like the babyliss press curls (or something like that!) that I tried because they did take longer than most to heat up and even when they did I don’t think they were as hot. I came to this conclusion because the style didn’t stay in my hair long at all after I’d used them and so it was a bit frustrating after spending a good hour or so doing your hair nice for it to fall out in less than 3 hours!

Onto straighteners, as I said before the GHDs are really good, fast heating and hot enough to tame even the thickest of hair! But my personal favourites (and ones I would reccommend!) are again from the Mark Hill range. The first set of Mark Hill straighteners I bought was around 5 years ago and they still work perfectly as they did when I first bought them! The only reason I bought more was to get ones with a wider plate so that my long thick hair wouldn’t take as long to do!

At around £100 they are pretty pricy, but as with the curlers, you can get them from Boots for £48! And if they last for as long as mine have then it works out at less than £10 a year!

Other straighteners that I thought were good were the remmington “wet to straight”. However, I do not reccommend using them when your hair is wet (even though thats what they are meant for) because I find that when you do it just makes your hair look frizzy-ish and it is a lot more flyaway. Having said that, when they are used on dry hair, the results are amazing! they make my hair so shiny and soft!

It started when I got a job in a small chemists and worked on the make up section, every day I was there there was someone new coming in asking for advice on what foundation suited their age/skin tone, what lipstick they could use that would last the whole day without the need to reapply or how to use make-up to contour their face. Now, when I was new to it, I’ll admit I was clueless! But over the years my colleagues (and even a lot of the customers!) have taught me so much, I’d like to share what I now know!

So, I’ll end my life story there and will be starting on the proper stuff soon-ish..
